Frequently asked questions

What is Quartio?
A map showing how safe each neighbourhood of Milan and Rome is considered, with a 0–100 score for daytime and one for night-time.
Where does the data come from?
From initial estimates based on public sources: Prefecture heightened-surveillance zones, municipal territorial data, ISTAT and urban context. No official neighbourhood-level crime dataset exists today.
Is it better by day or by night?
It depends on the area: many places that are calm by day become riskier after 8 pm. The map shows both scores and you can switch between them.
